Challenge:
Congress was worried about the US losing its leading edge advantage with semiconductor design and manufacturing. A Congressionally mandated report was undertaken by the U.S. Department of Commerce on the global competitive situation and outlook for U.S. semiconductor manufacturers.
Solution:
DBS profiled over 75 foreign and domestic manufacturers, including recent activities and current technology development plans, financial stability, investment levels, and political and trade environments. DBS identified a number of international government industry support programs (direct and indirect), projected industry trends based on recent historical activity, and provided recommendations on direction of the future of U.S. government support to domestic manufacturers.
Results:
As a result of DBS findings and recommendations, the Department of Commerce was able to design programs that would aid domestic semiconductor companies maintain their leading edge advantage.
